Quick Overview

We feel with the options provided there is no bad combination, the 50* degree trucks provide ample turn making the board lively even at low speeds.
44* will provide more stability at speed, but will be less agile at low speeds.
While most wheels are 70-72mm which is an ideal freeride wheel size.

Grip: Gripped coarse grip tape.
Laser cut grip tape is no longer available.

From Original:
At Original we have been traveling the world in an effort to put ourselves, our longboards, and our ideas to the test for nearly 10 years. We firmly believe that true progression must be fundamentally founded on not only a brutally honest idea of where we are going wrong, but also on a humbly accurate idea of what we are doing right. Traveling allows intimate insight into both. We highly recommend it.

The Freeride 38 and Freeride 41 are a direct result of traveling, exploring and adventuring through our world. They are the physical by-products of two years of diligent, collective, critical analysis which has lead to a better understanding of both our needs as riders, and our direction as a company.

The Freeride 38" W Concave

The Freeride 38 introduces W, comfortable W, to the short wheelbase freeride market. Starting our W far enough back to avoid impeding pushing but still far enough forward to feel it took more rounds of prototyping than we would like to recall. In the end we think we hit on something that adds a fun twist to your shorter urban freeride deck.

While not ideal for freestyle (WConcave detracts from freestyle durability by increasing stiffness in the center of the deck), the Freeride 38 WConcave will do it when asked. That said, the Freeride 38 WC really hits it's stride with shorter riders on steeper hills providing a pocket perfectly suited to a smaller stance. If you are a shorter rider hitting Freeride 80% of the time and freestyle 20% the Freeride 38 WConcave provides a unique opportunity to jump on a board perfectly styled for you. Taller riders looking to for a shorter freestyle deck should look to the Freeride 38 RockerConcave or to the Freeride 41 RockerConcave for a longer Freestyle option.

The Freeride 38" Rocker Concave

Not all freeriding is done on the steepest hills in the world. Whether you are practicing your next ender ender on a more mellow hill or just looking for a smaller board that will both commute and slide, it is critically important to match your freeride board to the type of terrain your riding will need to address. Every Freeride 38 RockerConcave comes standard with the tighter turning radius, lighter deck weight, and more potent kickratio the modern freerider needs to have fun whenever he or she may be addressing a some what less than epic hill grade.

The Freeride 38 RockerConcave brings more freestyle to the table than any other board in the Original Freeride line while staying true to it's freeride roots (particularly for riders of the less-tall persuasion). The shorter wheelbase keeps the Freeride 38RC quick through the turns while the rocker further adds not only to that control but also to the durability of the board (when freestyling) by taking pressure off of the neck. In addition to providing taller riders (5ft 9in+) fantastic freestyle performance around town, commuting in the city, or freeriding on more mellow slopes the Freeride 38RC gives riders of the less tall persuasion (-5ft 8in) the opportunity to choose a freeride board that is sized specifically for their needs on the steep stuff.

The Freeride 41" W Concave

The Freeride 41 WConcave uses it's W for board awareness first and foremost. Our goal was to convey stance information via the W while leaving the forward most foot platforms to lock you in with a quasi-traditional flat-to-radial concave that is only very slightly effected by the deeper than average (.20in) WConcave that exists at the board center. We have found this more slight WConcave at the footplatform (with a much steeper W in the center) provides a more comfortable alternative to the severe traditional WConcave options which we found unwieldy in anything but the most downhill specific applications.

We believe the Freeride 41 WConcave is second only to the Freeride 41 RockerConcave in terms of comfort, while easily besting the Freeride 41RC in the lockin and board feel department. The steeper than average center W stiffens the center of the board dramatically compared to the RockerConcave (which is already completely stiff). While this may sound like a good thing, the W removes the ability of the 9 Ply maple construction to flex at the center of the board in extreme impacts (car hits, freestyle stomp misses etc). The board is much less likely to survive either a car hit or a missed stomp. So for those seeking overtime freestyle durabilty we recommend either the Freeride 41 RockerConcave or the Freeride 38 RockerConcave.

The Freeride 41" Rocker Concave

As we have moved from a Freestyle leaning freestyle-freeride blend to a more pure Freeride focus we have asked our boards to step up to the challenge. No board has responded more positively to that new found riding diversity than the Freeride 41 RockerConcave.

The Freeride 41 sports the stability of the longest wheelbase in our longboard line-up while the RC concave grants enough rocker (0.5in) to keep it nimble on those mellow sections at your favorite hill or around town. The rocker also eases slide initiation making it easier than ever to break your wheels free. While the FR41 RockerConcave is preferred for our freeride-freestyle pursuits see “Longboarding Barcelona”, it’s higher speed DH performance has also pleasantly suprised us with the Freeride 41 RockerConcave being ridden to a Top 20 finish at the 2011 Euro Downhill championships in Italy.
